  Important Information

H1N1 Influenza Outbreak (Swine Flu) as at 29th July 2009

Medical Expenses

For All Policyholders:
If policyholders travelling overseas suffer the misfortune of contracting this particular strain of influenza, there are provisions within the policy to claim for medical expenses incurred to treat this illness in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy.
If emergency assistance is required, Policyholders are advised to immediately phone the 24 hour Emergency Service on + 44 1243 621 077.

Cancellation and Amendment Expenses:

For All Policyholders:

If you are an existing Policyholder, or are renewing your Annual Multi Trip without a break in coverage, you are insured in the event that you have to cancel your trip due to you, your relative, your travelling companion, your business colleague or person with whom you intend to stay at the trip destination being declared unfit to travel due to a diagnosis of Swine Flu (H1N1) by your GP / NHS Helpline, or being refused travel by your carrier due to the insured person displaying symptoms associated with Swine Flu (H1N1) subject to the production of evidence from the carrier.

For All Policyholders:
There is no provision to claim for cancellation or amendment expenses if the decision is made to cancel or curtail their trip due to fear of infection with this influenza strain, unless the Foreign & Commonwealth Office travel advice for their chosen destination is increased to “Do not travel”

For All Policyholders who purchase travel insurance PRIOR to booking their trip;
If you have to cancel a trip due to you, your relative, your travelling companion or your business colleague being declared unfit to travel as a result of contracting this particular strain of influenza or being refused carriage by any common carrier on the grounds of the insured person displaying symptoms associated with Swine Flu (H1N1) (subject to the production of evidence from the carrier), or a person with whom you intend to stay at the trip destination contracts this particular strain of influenza, you will be able to make a claim for cancellation in accordance with the standard terms and conditions of the policy.

For All Policyholders who purchase travel insurance AFTER booking their trip;
Policyholders will have a 50% coinsurance applied for the first 30 days after purchase of the policy. If their due date for travel is within 30 days, then the coinsurance will apply for that trip. If the due date of travel is over 30 days then the coinsurance ceases on the 30th day provided that no diagnosis or notice to claim has been made at that point.
Coinsurance means that you will only receive 50% of any amount which you would otherwise have received for cancellation. Coinsurance only applies if you have to cancel a trip due to you, your relative, your travelling companion or your business colleague being declared unfit to travel as a result of contracting this particular strain of influenza or being refused carriage by any common carrier on the grounds of the insured person displaying symptoms associated with Swine Flu (H1N1) (subject to the production of evidence from the carrier), or a person with whom you intend to stay at the trip destination contracts this particular strain of influenza.

What will I need to provide to make a claim?
In order for a claim for cancellation costs to be assessed, you must provide evidence of the following: a) a valid doctors certificate confirming you are medically unfit to travel. Please note a self certificate will not be accepted. This can be substituted with evidence from the appropriate carrier in the event you were refused permission to travel. b) Your policy start date c) When the trip was booked d) When the diagnosis was made
You must at all times contact your Underwriters claims representatives before cancelling your trip.

Important Information:
Irrespective of relevant policy provisions, policyholders should assess their own risk regarding the destinations to which they are travelling.
This advisory will be updated if and when further information is available but if you have any further enquiries, please email us at info@ehicplus.com.

If your trip consists of more than one destination, your claim will be limited to the unavoidable costs of rescheduling your trip to avoid those countries with a "Do not travel" warning, and not the cancellation or curtailment of the whole trip.
